Abomics was founded in 2013 and it’s located in Turku, Finland. The company employs experts specialised in medicine, genetics, pharmacology, medical biochemistry, health information technology and software development. Abomics develops and manages software used to provide the Abomics PGx interpretation Service and the Abomics GeneRx Database Service. In addition to professional software Abomics also develops and manages a mobile app for consumer use. Combining medical expertise and software development with the latest scientific research data is one of the most important factors of Abomic’s international competitiveness.
Abomic’s daughter company Multirec Oy was founded in 2000. Multirec is a healthcare information service company and the leading supplier of a medicinal product register to electronic patient record systems in Finland. It is the official distributor of the basic register of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) and supplements the register with several databases that make prescribing medicines easier and increase the safety and effectiveness of medical care. In Finland alone, the Multirec databases save doctors millions of keystrokes every year by streamlining the workflow when prescribing medicines. Multirec has a high customer satisfaction among software suppliers and healthcare professionals as well as a strong presence in Finland and an excellent cooperative relationship with electronic patient record system suppliers. The databases and tools that Multirec has been developing for decades bring Abomics Group a competitive advantage in the international market. Abomics and Multirec have collaborated already for years before Multirec became a part of the Abomics Group in 2022.

The idea for founding Abomics was born when tennis partners Jari Forsström and Klaus Elenius were discussing the future of healthcare in the sports hall’s sauna after a game. Both were certain that patients’ genetics and genetic testing would become the cornerstone of personalised healthcare. There was already strong evidence of the benefits of using genetic information in medicine, but it was rarely applied to clinical practice because healthcare professionals lacked adequate tools to utilise genetic information. In 2013 Forsström and Elenius decided to found a company to solve this widely recognised problem in healthcare. The central purpose of Abomics is to bring strongly evidence-based scientific information to both doctors and patients and make it easily understandable and applicable to daily clinical practice.
